Bosnian Serb Leader Calls for FM's Resignation :: Balkan Insight

Elvira M. Jukic

The President of Republika Srpska, the Serb-lead entity in Bosnia, Milorad Dodik, said that the country's Foreign Minister, Zlatko Lagumdzija, should leave the office accusing him of breaking the Constitution.

According to Dodik, Lagumdzija instructed Bosnia's representative in the UN to support the resolution on Syria, condemning the violence against the civilians by the Syrian government, without previously consulting with the members of Bosnia?s tripartite Presidency.

Dodik added that because of Lagumdzija's behaviour all political deals made between the six ruling parties are no longer valid until Lagumdzija is either dismissed or resigns.

?All agreements of 'the ruling six' are not valid any more.? They will be revived only when the situation over Lagumdzija's illegal and unconstitutional acts is resolved,? Dodik said in Banja Luka on Tuesday.

?We are not ready to let this go, Bosnia and Herzegovina will enter a fresh institutional crisis,? Dodik added.

But Lagumdzija dismissed Dodik's accusations. He told the local media that he did not act unconstitutionally.

?But if Dodik, Bosic and Radmanovic want to start my dismissal procedure in the Parliament and if they have the support of ? now former 'ruling six', without the SDP - then I do not intend to stop them,? the Foreign Minister said adding that he will try not to deepen the fresh political crisis.

?I'm afraid we're missing the point here. If we, by any chance, did otherwise [voted 'no']...we would be like Myanmar, Belarus or North Korea. We would have been out of step with the EU,? Lagumdzija said.

Two days ago, the Serb member of the Bosnian Presidency, Nebojsa Radmanovic, wrote to Lagumdzija warning him that he violated the Constitution since the Presidency did not officially decide whether to vote in support or against the resolution on Syria.

The Bosnian tripartite Presidency is tasked with leading the country's foreign policy and the Foreign Ministry is obliged to act according to decisions made by the Presidency.
