Tiger Sharks Relationships | Did your Date Want a Commitment Too ...

When you are on your first date it?s just to get to learn someone. You have read his user profile, looked at the pictures and talked in order to him on the phone. So far you like every thing about him however, you haven?t met him in person.

You are meeting him tonight and wish to create a good impression. You?re dressed nice and you believe he?ll like you. He choices you up and takes you to a great restaurant with the evening completely organized.

This individual seems like a man and is courteous and respectful for you. He has a great personality and talks up the storm. You think you?re both suitable since he likes what you like.

Following the date he takes you home and taking walks you to your door giving you a light kiss good-night. He phone calls two days later wishing to take you out again. You truly like him and are also excited he ask an individual.

This particular date was more romantic and you know him a little much better, but around the third date he wants dedication. You already know it?s too early since you?ve just known him for three weeks however, you really care for him.

Committing to someone you?ve just know for three weeks is too shortly. You don?t understand him that well as well as doesn?t know an individual. You need to take your time and effort to let the connection grow before saying yes to a dedication.

Are you aware everything regarding him? Maybe they have a temper which you haven?t seen but, or is actually over-bearing. When you?re with someone for a while, these little things begin to show up.

They often act their finest at first, but in time they begin to show their true colors. If you feel this person is for an individual, tell him it?s too soon for any dedication.

When he doesn?t understand or perhaps won?t take no to have an answer, after that he?s not the man you thought having been. You have to find out if he loves you about other folks, does he help those famished.

How can he treat an individual six months from at this point? Has he introduced you to his family and friends? Will he have any hidden kids you don?t learn about?

Are you aware what sort of work doing and does he spend his extra time together with you? Does he put you first and require you frequently? Have you got kids and exactly how does he treat them?

They are things you need to think about prior to getting committed. Committing to someone to shortly affects the rest of your life.

HP revenue falls six percent, beats Wall Street view

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co's fiscal first-quarter revenue fell 6 percent to $28.4 billion, but it beat Wall Street expectations in a flat to shrinking personal computing market, sending its shares up over 5 percent.

The world's No. 1 PC maker also gave an outlook that came in higher than Wall Street expected.

Analysts had on average expected HP, which like Dell Inc is struggling to sustain sales growth as smartphones and tablets surge in popularity, to record revenue of $27.8 billion in the December quarter.

The company's stock rose 5 percent, from a close of $17.10 on Nasdaq, in after-market trade.

HP on Thursday estimated fiscal second quarter earnings per share of 80 to 82 cents, higher than the average Wall Street forecast of 77 cents.

HP is struggling to shore up its credibility on Wall Street while battling shrinking margins in an increasingly cut-throat PC market, reduced IT spending, and an internal overhaul that involves thousands of layoffs.

Chief Executive Meg Whitman, who took the helm over a year ago after a failed bid to become governor of California, has plunged HP into a years-long turnaround to recapture some of the Silicon Valley icon's former growth trajectory.

She said the company's efforts at recovery is gaining traction but acknowledged "there's still a lot of work to do to generate the kind of growth we want to see."

Revenue at HP's personal systems division fell 8 percent, while sales in its enterprise group slid 4 percent during the quarter.

App Test Platform TestFlight Comes To Android In Private Beta, Says 300K Apps Uploaded On iOS

testflight logoOver the past couple of years, TestFlight has become the standard choice for giving beta testers (and tech bloggers) early access to iOS apps. Today the service is launching for Android developers too ? including cross-platform developers who already use TestFlight on iOS. As an iPhone owner, I'm less familiar with the Android app ecosystem, but I have heard that there isn't as big a need for something like TestFlight. In an email interview, co-founder Ben Satterfield acknowledged that "over the air distribution on Android isn't a pain point like it is on iOS," but he said that TestFlight has received more than 10,000 requests for Android support from developers.

New material interface improves functioning of non-silicon-based electronic devices

Feb. 17, 2013 ? For the first time, researchers have designed a special material interface that has been shown to add to and to improve the functioning of non-silicon-based electronic devices, such as those used in certain kinds of random access memory (RAM). According to Qi Li, a professor of physics at Penn State University and the leader of the research team, the new method could be used to design improved, more-efficient, multilevel and multifunctional devices, as well as enhanced nanoelectronic components -- such as non-volatile information storage and processing; and spintronic components -- an emerging technology that uses the natural spin of the electron to power devices.

The research has been accepted for publication in the journal Nature Materials.

Li explained that most modern-day electronic chips -- integrated circuits that serve as the building blocks for semiconductor electronic devices such as solar cells, personal computers, and cell phones -- use silicon transistors to process "logical states," or the binary system of ones and zeros used by computers. This binary information is stored for fast access in RAM and also permanently in a magnetic form on hard disks. In this system, the numeral 1 can be understood as "on" -- with a current of electrons flowing freely -- and the numeral 0 as "off" -- with a current blocked. However, in recent years, Li said, researchers in laboratories across the world have been experimenting with different, non-silicon materials that "can toggle between a multilevel state system and can bring the memory into logic operation," and also function with greater speed and less power consumption than are possible with current technology.

Now, in a new research study, Li and her colleagues have designed and tested an alternative way of creating a device that is compatible with non-silicon technology and that combines into one device both an electronic and a magnetic junction. "Magnetic tunnel junctions -- which include two magnetic metallic layers with a very thin insulator barrier in between -- have been used for binary-state devices, such as magnetic random-access memories (MRAM). Tunneling itself is a quantum-mechanical effect," Li said. "Our goal was to create a multifunctional device with improved function by adding what we call a ferroelectric-magnetic interface -- a ferroelectric layer replacing the insulator barrier and a special interface layer, less than one nanometer thick, built into the device that acts to change from metal to insulator as well as from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic in response to the negative or positive charge polarization of the barrier." Thanks to this interface and through a phenomenon called the tunneling electroresistance effect, Li said, "we have found that the binary-state resistance difference, or the 1/0 system, is enhanced by up to 10,000 percent. This device is considered a quaternary-state device because we have integrated ferroelectric tunneling -- which can be used as a switch or memory -- into magnetic tunnel junctions, a type of magnetic memory."

Li added that her team's newly designed interface is special because the oxide materials used to build it are "multiferroic" -- one side magnetic and the other ferroelectric, with the magnetic layer changing with the ferroelectric switching. Ferroelectric materials, which are used in the capacitors built into medical ultrasound machines, as well as in other memory devices such as hotel key cards, have a spontaneous electric polarization of negative and positive charges that can be reversed. On the other hand, ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, form permanent magnets with magnetization direction also reversible. "Because our new interface combines both magnetic and ferroelectric properties and because we utilize the coupling effect between the two, we can reproduce a similar binary system with a much larger resistance difference between the two charge-polarization directions. With future modifications, faster switching and storage, or toggling, between 1 and 0 with the information also stored in the same device (or between the states of 1, 2, 3, and 4) may be possible," Li said. "With a 10,000-percent enhancement, the 1 is a stronger 1 and the 0 is a stronger 0, thanks to the physical properties of the materials used to build the interface structures. Stronger 1s and 0s mean sharper switching or fewer memory errors and better and faster information processing and storage power."

Li said that non-silicon materials that use enhanced tunneling-electroresistance-effect technology may be many years away from being available in personal computers and cell phones. However, her research is a next step toward demonstrating the feasibility of this technology. "A few of the exciting outcomes of a multiferroic interface built into tunnel junctions would be doubling the memory states from two to four, a switch and a memory in one chip, and electrical control of the magnetic devices. For example, a new generation of non-volatile multilevel data processing and storage would be possible with the combined memory of MRAM and ferroelectric RAM (fRAM) or logic operation." Li said.

Li explained that memory is considered non-volatile if it is stored even when it is not powered. "Most computers use dynamic random-access memory (dRAM) -- a form of computer data storage in which stored information fades from the capacitor unless it is refreshed periodically," Li said. "But with both MRAM and fRAM, if you shut down your computer while you are watching a video, then the video would pop back up on the screen immediately as soon as you powered the computer back on again. No restart of the window in your personal computer would be necessary."

Another meteor? 'Fireballs' light up Florida sky

By Juan Ortega and Gilma Avalos, NBCMiami.com

South Floridians who happened to be looking in the right place at the right time Sunday night saw one spectacular light show ? possibly a sporadic meteor.

The Coast Guard began getting flooded with phone calls about 7:30 p.m., with reports of folks seeing flare-like objects from Jacksonville to Key West, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Sabrina Laberdesque.

People called in, describing the flares ?as orange or red fireballs in the sky,? Laberdesque said. The display was limited to the sky: No injuries were reported, Laberdesque said.

A sporadic meteor is basically a rocky object that comes from the asteroid belt, said Mike Hankey, operations manager for the American Meteor Society, based in Genesee, N.Y. The group logged 27 reports within about the first two hours of the event, he said.

"This is a lot of reports to come in quickly,"?Hankey said.?

Gauging by the reports, it happened somewhere over the ocean.

"These fireballs are common,"?Hankey said. "It?s rare for any one person to see one more than once or twice in their lifetime. But on any given night, it might happen somewhere in the globe a few times in a day."

Hankey added:?"People should not be scared of the sky falling or anything at all."

Amanda Mayer, of West Palm Beach, said she saw something in the sky and said she thought it was somebody flashing a light. She said she hit record on her camera.

"I was like, 'Wow! That's weird,"?Mayer said. "I just started videotaping, and that's when it happened."

More news from NBCMiami.com

It turned out to be good timing: The ball of light appeared as she recorded, she said.

"I was pretty sure it was a meteor because of everything else that's been happening,"?Mayer said.

The Coast Guard said it had suspected Sunday's sighting was a meteor shower, but Hankey disagreed. "Meteor showers usually are much dimmer and faster moving,"?Hankey said.?

After a meteor exploded overhead near Chelyabinsk, Russia, on?Friday, reportedly injuring more than 1,000 people, many people elsewhere in the world have wrongly thought that streaks they've seen in the sky, including planes, are meteors, Hankey said.

Traveling at 33,000 mph, a massive meteor hit the Earth's atmosphere creating a giant shockwave that blew out windows of glass, injuring nearly 1,000 people and creating panic. On the same day, an asteroid half the size of a football field came within 17,000 miles from Earth. NBC's Tom Costello reports.

"We?re getting a lot more false reports,"?Hankey said.

But with false reports, the group tends to receive only one report describing an incident, Hankey said. If the same event is reported over and over in five or 10 minutes, then that?s more likely to be "a legitimate event,? or sporadic meteor, Hankey said.?

In?South Florida Sunday night, the Coast Guard found that the light streak vanished in an instant. The Coast Guard sent out a helicopter to check out a report of a flare near the MacArthur Causeway in Miami, but found nothing there, Laberdesque said.

White House tries to keep immigration on track

(AP) ? The White House sought to keep delicate immigration negotiations on track Tuesday as a key Republican senator further distanced himself from a draft bill President Barack Obama's aides are readying in case congressional talks crumble.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio's office said Obama's plan "injected additional partisanship into an already difficult process." The White House, following the weekend leak of its draft legislation, insisted the president wants the bipartisan Senate group of which Rubio is a member to propose its own bill instead.

Obama spoke with Rubio on Tuesday to reiterate his commitment to the Senate process, but to make clear that he had his own legislation ready, the White House said. The president also called Republicans Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John McCain of Arizona, two other GOP lawmakers involved in the immigration negotiations.

"It is, by far, the president's preference that the Senate process move forward, that the bipartisan group of eight have success, and that they produce a bill that wins the support of Democrats and Republicans in Senate," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

Senate aides said privately that bipartisan negotiations are in a good place and did not feel as though the disclosure of details in Obama's draft bill would disrupt their progress. In fact, Obama's backup bill could end up spurring GOP lawmakers to rally behind a similar congressional plan rather than support legislation attached to the president.

While they differ on some key details, both sides are contemplating legislation that would provide a pathway to citizenship for most of the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S., tighten border security, crack down on businesses that employ illegal workers and strengthen the legal immigration system.

Rubio, a rising Republican star and favorite of his party's conservative wing, has particular incentive to disown Obama's proposals.

As one of his party's leading voices on immigration, Rubio will be called on to sell other conservatives on any deal and knows that doing so will be harder if that deal has the president's name attached to it. He'll also have to convince Republicans that a bipartisan Senate agreement would be more conservative than what Obama would propose on his own.

Rubio's office, trying to further distance itself from the White House, insisted that the senator's team had not been in talks with the administration on immigration. But Rubio spokesman Alex Conant later backed away from that statement after senior administration officials said representatives from Rubio's office had been part of five bipartisan immigration meetings with the White House.

The White House has insisted it did not intentionally leak details of its immigration plan, which circulated widely at key government agencies. Top Obama aides tried to clear up the mess over the weekend, making apologetic calls to the offices of the eight senators at the center of the Capitol Hill negotiations.

Obama officials say the documents represent draft proposals, not a final bill. The president and his aides have repeatedly said publicly that the White House was readying legislation and would submit it to Congress if the Senate process stalls.

The draft White House proposal and the principles outlined by the Senate group overlap in many areas, though there are some key differences.

The administration's draft proposal would create a visa for those in the country illegally and allow them to become legal permanent residents within about eight years as part of a broader pathway to citizenship. The Senate group is looking at a 10-year timeline before people already in the U.S. illegally could get green cards.

While Obama's proposal calls for more funding for securing the border, it does not make border security a pre-condition for opening a pathway to citizenship. The Senate group's principles would require a border security trigger, though it's unclear how they would define a secure border.

Rubio's office has also criticized the president's proposals for not including a guest worker program or a plan for dealing with the future flow of immigrants.

Officials say the White House has not set a deadline for when the president would choose to abandon the Senate process and send his bill to Capitol Hill. Senate lawmakers have raised the prospect of drafting a bill next month.

Hanging over the entire immigration debate in Washington is a changed political landscape that gives Hispanics more influence in national politics than ever before. Hispanics made up 10 percent of the electorate in the November presidential election and Obama won more two-thirds of their votes, causing many Republican lawmakers to rethink their opposition to immigration reform.

Immigration advocates have vowed to keep reminding GOP lawmakers of the growing political power of Hispanic voters.

"You can choose not to do it, you can choose inaction, but keep in mind that the Latino community is not going to forget," said Eliseo Medina, an immigration advocate and labor leader at the Service Employees International Union.

"If the Senate blocks it, then get prepared for 2014," he added, referring to next year's congressional elections.

Apple?s iPad Ads Are Losing Their Flair

Two new TV spots are available from Apple featuring all the cool things about iPads, including the full-size 9.7-inch version, and the diminutive iPad mini with its 7.9-inch display.

Featuring the same percussion-based soundtrack with a chorus yelling out things like ?alive,? ?loud,? ?bright,? ?wild? etc, the new iPad ads seem to mark a departure from Apple?s previous advertisements.

Not necessarily in the visuals as much as in the audio. I, for one, find the audio bit annoying. And I?m wondering how much Apple can keep this up. For the past year or so, the company?s iPad ads have been telling the same story over and over again.?From a visual standpoint, they're virtually unchanged.

All they do is showcase apps on a white background with hands coming out of nowhere. They're starting to feel artificial. Any story told one too many times becomes stale.

Using the iPad in various circumstances, for example on a trip in the middle of nowhere with a group of friends where the tablet instantly becomes the most useful survival tool in one?s backpack ? now that would make a great commercial.

Don't let Samsung beat you to it, Apple!

4 Reasons Your Marriage Is Susceptible To Divorce | World of ...

4 Reasons Your Marriage May Be Susceptible to Divorce This guest article from YourTango was written by Dr. Tina Schermer-Sellers.

The fire of love is a fragile and fickle flame. I often hear stories of people leaving good relationships because they have developed deep connections outside the marriage. So, how can you keep your marriage intact?

There are four, cultural elements causing marriage and love to be more fragile in these modern times. They are:

1. We marry for love.

We have been doing this for less than 100 years. Up until recent history, we married because of family loyalties, property, status, religious mandates and social tradition.

Love is a fragile thing ? it needs lots of TLC! If love is ignored, the bond in the relationship will weaken. Inside this weakness dissention, criticism and distance grows. Love is like a small flame; it needs lots of consistent time and attention to stay strong!

2. Spouses aren?t dependent on one another.

Women and men are now both able to care for themselves and their children financially and socially, leaving both sexes less likely to stay in unhappy relationships. This fact, plus the fact that many people have successfully moved on from one marriage into another life reduces the stigma of divorce.

The financial and social pressure to stay married isn?t what it used to be. People stay married because they choose each other daily, they want to choose each other daily, and they nourish their connection daily as well.

3. We live longer than we ever have.

The average age of marriage in urban areas is 26 for women and 28 for men. With a lifespan of 85-plus years, it is feasible to be married for 60-plus years. There is a great amount of change people go through over a 60-year relationship.

As a culture, do we invest any time giving people the skills they need to keep a love alive and vibrant? Do we even know what that means, what that looks like, or how to do such a thing? A couple who actively works to improve their relationship IQ weathers life?s challenges with more grace, compassion and love. As they keep growing, so does their relationship.

4. We now live a 24/7 lifestyle.

This is an entirely new social phenomenon that has never been the case before. People are working 50+ hours a week, on their communication devices all hours of the night and day, expected to be reachable and attending to multiple demands simultaneously ? the email from work, the text from a child, the conversation with a partner, the deadline that is tomorrow, the sale that ends tonight. This is impossible ? hello?? ? this is impossible to do without losing connection with those closest to you.

To nourish a meaningful, deeply attached relationship with a child, spouse or friend, to nourish love, you need focused time to be thoughtfully and solely with each other ? in the moment ? present in the now ? open heart to open heart. That is the only way. Distracted connections become weak connections and weak connections, with nothing social or internal holding them together, will in time, break. There is no magic wishing that will suffice ? they will break.

If these influences negatively affect your love life, discuss how you can bring more TLC into your relationship. Discuss how to wrap space, time and attention around you by putting in a few protective boundaries. For example, no electronics in bed or 15 minutes of quiet music, a glass of wine and a dimly lit room together before bed.

Most importantly, discuss what you miss and how to bring more of that into your busy lives, longing hearts and sacred union.

Poor stress responses may lead to obesity in children

Feb. 14, 2013 ? Children who overreact to stressors may be at risk of becoming overweight or obese, according to researchers at Penn State and Johns Hopkins University.

"Our results suggest that some children who are at risk of becoming obese can be identified by their biological response to a stressor," said Lori Francis, associate professor of biobehavioral health. "Ultimately, the goal is to help children manage stress in ways that promote health and reduce the risks associated with an over- or under-reactive stress response."

Francis and her colleagues -- Douglas Granger, director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research at Johns Hopkins University, and Elizabeth Susman, Jean Phillips Shibley Professor of Biobehavioral Health at Penn State -- recruited 43 children ages 5- to 9-years-old and their parents to participate in the study.

To examine the children's reactions to a stressor, the team used the Trier Social Stress Test for Children, which consists of a five-minute anticipation period followed by a 10-minute stress period. During the stress period, the children were asked to deliver a speech and perform a mathematics task. The team measured the children's responses to these stressors by comparing the cortisol content of their saliva before and after the procedure.

The researchers also measured the extent to which the children ate after saying they were not hungry using a protocol known as the Free Access Procedure. The team provided the children with lunch, asked them to indicate their hunger level and then gave them free access to generous portions of 10 snack foods, along with a variety of toys and activities. The children were told they could play or eat while the researchers were out of the room.

The results appeared online in the December 2012 issue of the journal Appetite.

The team found that, on average, the children consumed 250 kilocalories of the snack foods during the Free Access Procedure, with some consuming small amounts (20 kilocalories) and others consuming large amounts (700 kilocalories).

"We found that older kids, ages 8 to 11, who exhibited greater cortisol release over the course of the procedure had significantly higher body-mass indices [BMI] and consumed significantly more calories in the absence of hunger than kids whose cortisol levels rose only slightly in response to the stressor," Francis said. "We also found that kids whose cortisol levels stayed high -- in other words, they had low recovery -- had the highest BMIs and consumed the greatest number of calories in the absence of hunger."

According to Francis, the study suggests that children who have poor responses to stressors already are or are at risk of becoming overweight or obese. In her future work, she plans to examine whether children who live in chronically stressful environments are more susceptible to eating in the absence of hunger and, thus, becoming overweight or obese.

"It is possible that such factors as living in poverty, in violent environments, or in homes where food is not always available may increase eating in the absence of hunger and, therefore, increase children's risk of becoming obese," she said.

Also taking part in the press conference were Rita Benson Leblanc, New Orleans Saints owner and vice chairman; Stephen Perry, president and CEO of New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau; Jay Cicero, CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation; and Alan Freeman, general manager of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and New Orleans Arena.

?WWE is all about bringing smiles to people?s faces the world over,? Stephanie McMahon said, speaking moments after her father took the podium. ?And that is what we?re going to do right here in the city of New Orleans, because we are going to have one heck of a party 30 years in the making.?

WWE Champion The Rock also spoke on the significance of WrestleMania week, calling it an ?unduplicated? experience for the host city (WATCH: ROCK'S INTRO). ?The bottom line is, it?s fun,? The Great One said, grinning from ear to ear, ?and I am so, so proud to bring WrestleMania to New Orleans.? He then led the assembled members of the media in a chorus of ?When the Saints Go Marching In.?

John Cena, who will challenge Rock for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 29 in East Rutherford, N.J., in just a few weeks? time, echoed his opponent?s sentiments.

?[WrestleMania] will give people around the world the chance to enjoy the hospitality I have enjoyed,? the 10-time WWE Champion said. ?Every tourist who comes to New Orleans always leaves with a story about New Orleans.?(WATCH: CENA TAKES THE PODIUM)

?I promise you when WrestleMania XXX comes to New Orleans, we will give you a celebration worthy of this great city.?

Aside from WrestleMania XXX itself, the festivities in New Orleans will include WrestleMania Axxess, the annual, four-day fan festival, taking place at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Monday Night Raw, be a STAR anti-bullying rallies, the WrestleMania Reading Challenge Finals, hospital visits and other pro-social activities designed to give back to the community. The pay-per-view event will be televised to more than 100 countries.?Last year, WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami generated more than $100 million in economic impact for Miami and Miami-Dade County, a new record for WrestleMania.?This year, WrestleMania 29 takes place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Sunday, April 7.

Ultimately, though, and perhaps rather fittingly, it was Mr. McMahon who gave the perfect summation of his signature creation?s 30th birthday, with a bit of local flavor to boot.

?I believe there?s an expression you use here in New Orleans,? Mr. McMahon said at the conclusion of his remarks. ?I will not attempt to say it in French, but: let the good times roll.?

Kuchar grabs one-shot lead

Matt Kuchar fired a bogey-free seven-under 64 on Thursday to seize a one-stroke lead over Spain?s Sergio Garcia in the first round of the USPGA Tour Northern Trust Open. Kuchar?s seven birdies on Los Angeles? par-71 Riviera Country Club layout included three to open his round. Garcia, runner-up at the European Tour?s Qatar Masters last month, teed off on 10 and also opened with three birdies. His lone bogey of the day came at the 13th, but he picked up four more birdies on his inward run ? capping his 65 with a birdie at the ninth as fog from the Pacific Ocean drifted across the course that had been bathed in sunshine all day. Journeyman Brandt Jobe ? playing in the first group off the first tee ? had set an early target with a five-under 66 that left him in third when darkness halted play with 18 players yet to complete their rounds.

Van Zyl leads by two shots

Jaco van Zyl of South Africa shot a six-under 66 to hold a two-stroke clubhouse lead at the Africa Open in East London, South Africa, on Thursday, before the wind-affected first round was suspended because of darkness. Van Zyl was among the 84 players from the 156-man field to complete the round, with strong winds causing a delay of nearly three hours midway through the day. Adilson da Silva of Brazil joined Van Zyl on six-under by rolling in a birdie putt on nine just as the siren sounded to end the day?s play at 6:55pm. John Parry of England shot a 68 to be Van Zyl?s nearest challenger in the clubhouse.

Maradona a father again

Diego Maradona is a father again after his long-time partner Veronica Ojeda gave birth to a boy, who has been named Diego Fernando Maradona Ojeda. Jorge Auruccio, Ojeda?s lawyer, said the baby weighed 3.2kg and was born on Wednesday at 11:57pm in a Buenos Aires hospital. He said the mother and child were in ?perfect? shape. The 52-year-old Maradona has two daughters from his marriage with Claudia Vallafane ? Dalma and Giannina. The Argentine great has two other children he has never recognized as his, although courts in paternity cases have ruled he is the father.

Froome leads in Oman

Tour de France runner-up Christopher Froome took the overall lead in the Tour of Oman after finishing second in the fourth stage on Thursday. Froome, a Sky Pro Cycling rider who was 13th overall after the third day, finished four seconds behind stage winner Oliver Joaquim Rodriguez of Katusha, who won the 143.5km ride from Samail to Jabal Al Akhdhar. Two Tour de France winners followed; Cadel Evans of BMC finished 22 seconds back in third, while Alberto Contador of Saxo-Tinkoff came in 27 seconds back in fourth. With two stages remaining, Froome led Evans by 24 seconds for the overall lead, with Contador a further second back.

French agency snubs UCI

The French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) will not carry out tests on the Paris-Nice stage race this year, citing a disagreement with the International Cycling Union. ?Given the serious mistakes that were made before ... the AFLD has considered ... that it could not lend its support to the international federation in carrying out tests on the Paris-Nice race,? the AFLD said in a statement on Thursday, without elaborating.

Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno and five councilors arrested for illegal gambling; Erap Estrada suspects arrest was politically motivated

Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno and five councilors arrested for illegal gambling; Erap Estrada suspects arrest was politically motivated

Tapos nagkagulo na ang taong-bayan, there are about two thousand people in the area, bata at matanda.

?Siyempre naawa ako, inawat ko sila. In the end, kaming lahat ang inaresto.?

Kaugnay ng pag-aresto kina Isko at mga kasamahan nito ay nagkaroon ng kaguluhan, at dinala ang bise-alkalde sa ospital para sa medical check-up.

Pope, at one of last appearances, says pray for me and next pope

If it weren't for a pesky news report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would have had been able to claim a government allowance to purchase delicious frozen treats. "The Prime Minister?s Residence had already spent NIS 3,000 [$814 US] on ice cream by May of last year, and therefore filed a special request for budgeting thousands of shekels more for ice cream from a nearby shop that Netanyahu especially liked," reports the Times of Israel. After the rest of his countrymen found out, the embarrassed PM had to withdraw the request?for the special snacks.

States' choices set up national health experiment

(AP) ? President Barack Obama's health care overhaul is unfolding as a national experiment with American consumers as the guinea pigs: Who will do a better job getting uninsured people covered, the states or the feds?

The nation is about evenly split between states that decided by Friday's deadline they want a say in running new insurance markets and states that are defaulting to federal control because they don't want to participate in "Obamacare." That choice was left to state governments under the law: Establish the market or Washington will.

With some exceptions, states led by Democrats opted to set up their own markets, called exchanges, and Republican-led states declined.

Only months from the official launch, exchanges are supposed to make the mind-boggling task of buying health insurance more like shopping on Amazon.com or Travelocity. Millions of people who don't have employer coverage will flock to the new markets. Middle-class consumers will be able to buy private insurance, with government help to pay the premiums in most cases. Low-income people will be steered to safety net programs like Medicaid.

"It's an experiment between the feds and the states, and among the states themselves," said Robert Krughoff, president of Consumers' Checkbook, a nonprofit ratings group that has devised an online tool used by many federal workers to pick their health plans. Krughoff is skeptical that either the feds or the states have solved the technological challenge of making the purchase of health insurance as easy as selecting a travel-and-hotel package.

Whether or not the bugs get worked out, consumers will be able to start signing up Oct. 1 for coverage that takes effect Jan. 1. That's also when two other major provisions of the law kick in: the mandate that almost all Americans carry health insurance, and the rule that says insurers can no longer turn away people in poor health.

Barring last-minute switches that may not be revealed until next week, 23 states plus Washington, D.C., have opted to run their own markets or partner with the Obama administration to do so.

Twenty-six states are defaulting to the feds. But in several of those, Republican governors are trying to carve out some kind of role by negotiating with federal Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Utah's status is unclear. It received initial federal approval to run its own market, but appears to be reconsidering.

"It's healthy for the states to have various choices," said Ben Nelson, CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. "And there's no barrier to taking somebody else's ideas and making them work in your situation." A former U.S. senator from Nebraska, Nelson was one of several conservative Democrats who provided crucial votes to pass the overhaul.

States setting up their own exchanges are already taking different paths. Some will operate their markets much like major employers run their health plans, as "active purchasers" offering a limited choice of insurance carriers to drive better bargains. Others will open their markets to all insurers that meet basic standards, and let consumers decide.

Obama's Affordable Care Act remains politically divisive, but state insurance exchanges enjoy broad public support. Setting up a new market was central to former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's health care overhaul as governor of Massachusetts. There, it's known as the Health Connector.

A recent AP poll found that Americans prefer to have states run the new markets by 63 percent to 32 percent. Among conservatives the margin was nearly 4-1 in favor of state control. But with some exceptions, including Idaho, Nevada and New Mexico, Republican-led states are maintaining a hands-off posture, meaning the federal government will step in.

"There is a sense of irony that it's the more conservative states" yielding to federal control, said Sandy Praeger, the Republican insurance commissioner in Kansas, a state declining to run its own exchange. First, she said, the law's opponents "put their money on the Supreme Court, then on the election. Now that it's a reality, we may see some movement."

They're not budging in Austin. "Texas is not interested in being a subcontractor to Obamacare," said Lucy Nashed, spokeswoman for Gov. Rick Perry, who remains opposed to mandates in the law.

In Kansas, Praeger supported a state-run exchange, but lost the political struggle to Gov. Sam Brownback. She says Kansans will be closely watching what happens in neighboring Colorado, where the state will run the market. She doubts that consumers in her state would relish dealing with a call center on the other side of the country. The federal exchange may have some local window-dressing but it's expected to function as a national program.

Christine Ferguson, director of the Rhode Island Health Benefits Exchange, says she expects to see a big shift to state control in the next few years. "Many of the states have just run out of time for a variety of reasons," said Ferguson. "I'd be surprised if in the longer run every state didn't want to have its own approach."

In some ways, the federal government has a head start on the states. It already operates the Medicare Plan Finder for health insurance and prescription plans that serve seniors, and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Both have many of the features of the new insurance markets.

Administration officials are keeping mum about what the new federal exchange will look like, except that it will open on time and people in all 50 states will have the coverage they're entitled to by law.

Joel Ario, who oversaw planning for the health exchanges in the Obama administration, says "there's a rich dialogue going on" as to what the online shopping experience should look like. "To create a website like Amazon is a very complicated exercise," said Ario, now a consultant with Manatt Health Solutions.

He thinks consumers should be able to get one dollar figure for each plan that totals up all their expected costs for the year, including premiums, deductibles and copayments. Otherwise, scrolling through pages of insurance jargon online will be a sure turn-off.

Moody?s: US debt situation will affect credit rating

Moody?s: US debt situation will affect credit rating

No comments ? | ? Printer Friendly

WASHINGTON ? Moody?s Investor Service said the the outcome of the debt situation in the U.S. directly affects its credit rating, in an announcement published last Thursday.

Moody'sSpecifically, Moody?s said that ?further fiscal policy actions in coming months would be needed to ensure a decline in the debt ratios.? In addition, they said that ?any rating action in coming months will be predicated on the expected debt trajectory, which in turn will result from fiscal policy and the expected path of economic growth.?

If the U.S. did not see significant GDP growth, its debt-to-GDP ratio will suffer and could lead to a bad credit rating, the first in decades.

The U.S. credit rating was downgraded by Standard and Poors (S&P) from a AAA rating to the AA-plus, to which Obama and his government agencies cried as foul play and subsequently sued S&P.

Other agencies like Moody?s and Fitch have the U.S. at a AAA rating, but mention that if the U.S. does not get its act together, it will be downgraded.

Now it is time for the House and Senate to reach a deal to save the country?s credit rating, or the U.S. could become another Greece very soon.

How to Turn an Average Bathroom into a Spa Bathroom | Care2 ...

When you visit a spa, you?ll notice that the ?wet? areas evoke a certain feeling of relaxation. What elements of these rooms makes them feel so relaxing? Surely, it?s not just the water features. On their own, hot tubs and saunas are not necessarily harmonious-looking. It?s the colors, textures, lighting, and lack of clutter that make spas feel like spas. Also, smell and sound give spas their distinctive atmosphere.

Now, most of us spend more time in our own bathrooms than we do at spas. Really, who can afford to frequent the spa? For the average Jane or Joe, our bathrooms are about as close to a spa as we get most of the time. It is in our bathrooms that we get that pampering and ?me time? that we need.

Since having a tile contractor come and install new tile is not necessarily in the budget, smaller, cheaper changes can make an average bathroom feel more like a spa.

Make toiletries part of your decor: When you visit a spa, you?ll see only carefully selected and displayed toiletries. One of the easiest ways to emulate the look and feel of a spa in your own bathroom is to clear toiletry clutter. Easier said than done, right? When there is limited storage space, and each family member has his own toiletries, the bathroom can get pretty cluttered. First, purge old and expired toiletries. Next, find some inexpensive matching glass or china cups or jars. Fill them with your go-to toiletries, like cotton swabs and soaps. Then tuck away the rest of the packages in closets or cabinets. Make a ?no plastic bottles on the counter? rule.

Paint it in a neutral color palate: Bright colors are stimulating; neutral colors are more relaxing. You don?t have to limit your color palate to white, beige, and brown ? take advantage of ?the new neutrals?. Sophisticated, nature-inspired colors, like greys, greens, and blues, are also neutral. Avoid glossy paint; stick to eggshell finish paint. For inspiration, check out the light and colors painted by a Seattle painter in this healing, beautiful Seattle home.

Upgrade the linens and shower curtain: A favorite interior designer of mine took a look at my old-school pink tiled bathroom and said, ?White linens.? Was she ever right! Adding a white washed linen shower curtain gave the room a feeling of serenity. Shower curtains take up prime real estate in bathrooms. The color and texture of the shower curtain really matter. The right color and texture can lighten, brighten, and harmonize the space; the wrong color or pattern can make the room look dowdy and dark. Fluffy matching towels, and a high-quality shower curtain made of natural fibers, can transform even an ugly pink tile bathroom like mine into a spa-like retreat.

Spray paint the fixtures: Nothing says ?cheesy 1980?s shmaltz? like the shiny faux-brass faucet handles and sink spigots of the era. To tone down dated fixtures, paint metal components with textured spray paint.
Have you turned your bathroom into a spa sanctuary? Tell us about it!

Bruce Willis: I was on wagon, but drink wine now

Mario Testino / GQ

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

After years of sobriety, Bruce Willis is allowing himself alcohol again, but in limited quantities, the "Die Hard" star told GQ magazine in a new cover story.

"I had been sober," he said. "But once I realized that I wasn't gonna run myself off the pier of life with alcohol, drinking vodka out of the bottle every day ... I have wine now, mostly when I eat."

Willis also discussed the 1994 classic "Pulp Fiction," and the disturbing scene he shared with Ving Rhames. "Those were a couple of dark days of shooting," Willis said of acting with a ball gag in his mouth. "Grim."

Willis won an Emmy for "Moonlighting" in his TV days, but he's not upset if he never adds an Oscar to that shelf.

"You don't get an Oscar for comedy, and you don't get it for shooting people," he said. "You get it for novelty, for being fascinating to watch in some character role. But the 'Die Hard'?stuff and 'Dirty Harry'?are all fraught with the same thing that every story is fraught with."

His next film, "A Good Day to Die Hard," opens Feb. 14. Willis has said he thinks he will do one more movie in the series.

Are you a fan of Bruce Willis? Will you see "A Good Day to Die Hard"? Tell us on Facebook.

Asia stocks up on strong US corporate earnings

BANGKOK (AP) ? Asian stock markets rose Wednesday after strong U.S. corporate earnings sent the Dow close to its record high. Japanese shares faltered, however, as the yen rebounded against the dollar.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei index tumbled as the yen strengthened against the dollar following a pledge by finance ministers from the world's major advanced economies to refrain from intentionally weakening their currencies. The Nikkei 225 was down 1.1 percent to 11,239.56.

Australian stocks hit their highest intraday level in nearly three years before ceding some gains. The S&P/ASX 200 was up 1 percent to 5,006.20 after the release of strong earnings from Commonwealth Bank of Australia and construction company Leighton Holdings.

South Korea's Kospi advanced 1.4 percent to 1,973.48. Benchmarks in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines also rose.

Markets in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam were closed for Lunar New Year holidays.

Finance ministers from the Group of Seven nations said in a statement following a meeting in Brussels that they remained committed to exchange rates driven by the market, not government or central bank policies.

Traders interpreted the statement as a message directed at Japan, where the yen has plummeted against the dollar since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took office and pushed the central bank for ultra-loose monetary policy.

Central bank governor Masaaki Shirakawa, who has appeared at odds with Abe's views on monetary policy, is resigning next month, giving the government an opportunity to find a successor more sympathetic to its aims.

Glenn Levine, senior economist at Moody's Analytics, said Japan's steps to boost its economy, including asset purchases by the Bank of Japan and raising the inflation target to 2 percent, offer promise but come with the risk of sparking a currency war.

He noted that the U.S. Federal Reserve and Bank of England have taken even more aggressive steps but have been "less vocal, and have thus avoided setting off currency alarms."

"Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe merely vocalized what everyone already knew, that a cheaper currency is beneficial to growth," Levine said.

The Bank of Japan begins a two-day policy meeting Wednesday but analysts said no new initiatives were expected in light of the impending leadership change.

Among individual stocks, Commonwealth Bank of Australia rose 2.4 percent after reporting a record first-half profit of 3.66 billion Australian dollars ($3.76 billion) profit.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose to its highest close of the year after positive results from two big U.S. consumer brands, beauty products maker Avon and luxury clothing and accessories company Michael Kors. Consumer spending accounts for 70 percent of economic activity in the U.S.

The Dow rose 0.3 percent to 14,018.70, within 1 percent of its record of 14,164 it set in October 2007. The S&P 500 gained 0.2 percent to 1,519.43. The Nasdaq composite fell 0.2 percent to 3,186.49.

Benchmark oil for March delivery was up 8 cents to $97.59 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 48 cents to finish at $97.51 on the Nymex on Tuesday.

In currencies, the euro rose to $1.3449 from $1.3444 late Tuesday in New York. The dollar fell to 92.92 yen from 93.52 yen.
