dads, fatherhood, parenting, family - Dads Who Follow Jesus-3 ...

Beginning With A Suggested Prayer...

"Lord, as I reflect on loving and listening to my daughter(s), I ask You simply to assist me in listening to You as I read. You take what I read and use it to continue building a deep and meaningful relationship her. In Your Name I pray, Amen!"

A Brief Preview...

1. Listening does not just happen.

2. Listening can be thought of as an act of faith for dads of faith.

3. Developing the art of true listening means learning to listen from the inside out.

Insight Number One

The basics win the game in so many areas of life, and in the art of listening one of the basics that helps us to win may be said this way:

It simply does not "just happen."

Why?

Because at its core, true listening is a heart to heart practice.?

It is a practice from the heart,

By design,

For all of the right reasons before the Lord.?

Tip Number Two

Think of the practice of true listening to the daughters you love as...

An act of faith.

In faith we bow before the Lord,

In faith we commit to loving the daughters committed to our care,

And in faith we commit to listening as a part of the love process.?

"And the tip is?"? Answer: Decide to make it happen before the Lord.

Listening constitutes one of the many aspects of commitment relative to caring as a Christian dad for the daughters entrusted to our care.?

Please, dad: take in what I say.? Engage in the listening process.?

Make the commitment. Pray in sincerity to make it happen. And take action.?

Today.

Tip Number Three

However you pause on the inside when you encounter something that can be a game maker or breaker for you, please settle a bit to reflect on this third tip:

"Pause from the inside out."?

In other words, make it evident that you have disengaged on the inside from the various nuances of your world long enough to engage in the compassionate art of listening to the one communicating with you "on the outside."?

Hint: Little or no mental multi-tasking allowed.?

Many times the seriousness of an issue goes unheard because the senses lie dormant on the doormat of the heart due to:

Little use, Too little valued too late, Or complete unawareness cloaked in a deceptive disguise of busyness.

Questions For Growth

"Do I make it my practice to pause long enough on the inside to truly hear my daughter?

"Am I listening heart to heart?"

"My personal insights from reading are...?"
